Birds of Prey

We decided to take advantage of the buy one get one free admission to the Birds of Prey today. We have never been and were anxious to see what it was all about. We were not disappointed - this is a really neat place to go. First we took a tour of the birds they have in captivity. These were birds that will live here their whole life for one reason or another. They do have a bird rehab place where they try to help injured or sick birds get well enough to go back into the wild. They do not let the public in that area so the birds aren't too used to humans.

The kids did well with the hour talk about the birds. DuBose listened pretty much the whole time, but Mills and Ellie lost interest after awhile but were happy to quietly play by us.

And then we moved on to the flight demonstration part. We have seen this each year at SEWE but this was a very up close look at these birds that is hard to get at the crowded SEWE demos. (Even though it was crowded today due to the deal - about 150 people were out there with us. They have enough room to accommodate that number of people though.)

 We saw a Ural Owl. He was such a pretty fellow. I had such fun taking pictures of these amazing birds!

 And this is a kite.  I can't remember which type of kite though. He was having a good time flying around and didn't want to come back. They eventually got him and then brought out the last of 5 birds we saw.

 The bald eagle was awesome. It was just so neat to see him up close like this.

 

I really enjoyed today, the birds and the weather (the weather!!).  I had lots of fun taking pictures, exploring my different settings and seeing these raptors up close like this.

We had a great day, and I hope to make it back to the Birds of Prey sometime soon!
