SEWE

 We went out Saturday to enjoy SEWE at Marion Square. We walked through the many exhibits and had lunch with CiCi, Da, GG, Ryan, and Ryan's mom.

This one tent had tons of tables giving away free stuff which of course the boys thought was awesome. In order to receive a free t-shirt they had to sign their name to the Palmetto Pride pledge which states that they promise not to litter. DuBose said, "That's easy! I never litter. Litter is gross."

 Then we walked over to the Gaillard for the Jack Hanna show which is always lots of fun.

 I couldn't get any good shots from my seat but that's a flamingo on stage.

We made our way to the Charleston Place to walk through the exhibits. We had to stop to talk to the fire house dog on our way.

 Once we got to the exhibits, the boys started wondering around through the different displays. They came to one with wood sculptures. The artist eyed them for a few minutes before coming around the table with what looked to be an oyster shell. He asked the boys if they knew what it was (they did), and then let them hold it. They were both amazed to find out it was a wood carving made to look exactly like an oyster shell. The boys (DuBose in particular) asked a lot of questions - good ones like "how long did it take to make that one?" and"what are your tools?" and the artist was super nice and answered them all. He even let them touch his carvings on display so they could feel the textures. These pieces were at least $1200, but the boys were very respectful and careful. As we were leaving he gave them his card and asked them to email with more questions.

We made our way to another sculptor, this time with bronze as his medium. The boys again got into a conversation with the artist and he pulled out his iPad to show them pictures of the process he uses. They were intrigued and took a look at his sculptures with a different prespective.

It was really neat for them to have this interaction with these artists. So often, and rightfully so, they are worried that little fingers will ruin their hard work. I was impressed that these two took the time to really engage the boys and help them learn something new today.

It was time to move on and the kids were hungry for a snack so we decided to reward them for being such good little troopers today with an ice cream sundae. We hit the market for Ben and Jerry's but 4000 other people had the same idea so we moved on to Wild Wings where we got them the molten chocolate cake with ice cream and shared a dozen wings! It was a nice ending to a really fun day.
